On the Easternmost point of the Island is the small village of Canyamel, a quiet corner surrounded by hills, pine trees, a torrent, white sands and crystal clear waters. Taking a vacation here has been possible since 1962 but it still remains a privileged area, a long way away from mass tourism with small hotels and a lovely quiet beach.

Around the hotel there are various restaurants where we can try diverse dishes and specialities, among them Majorcan cuisine. A few minutes away from the hotel there is a tennis court and a golf course. The name Canyamel means Sugar Cane which comes from the time when this place was the only place on the island which was allowed to grow it by Royal Decree.

The hotel is perfect as a starting point for excursions of all kinds, including foot and bicycle ones which are an ideal way to explore the Mediterranean flora and wildlife.

In the area surrounding Canyamel there are a lot of interesting things: culture, sport and typical restaurants.

There exist diverse prehistoric constructions which can be visited and at el cap vermell which separates Canyamel from the nearest village, the Artá caves can be found. At Capdepera there is a castle which dates back to 1300 and on a hill overlooking the village of Artá there is a church dating back to the 16th Century.

The tennis club in Canyamel has 16 courts. Bicycles can be hired and you can go on bicycle excursions. There are 4 golf courses which can be reached in under 15 minutes and in Cala Ratjada horses can be rented to ride them along wild trails and in the port trips on exclusive yachts are sold.

About 2 km from Canayamel there is a tower dating back to the 13th century. It used to be used as a lookout point on the Canyamel coastline but today it is a museum-restaurant which is well known on the island because of its speciality - roast black pig. In Orient square in Capdepera you can try the snacks or visit the weekly market. Cala Ratjada is one the most important ports and in the surrounding area there are many restaurants which serve fresh fish.

During the summer months there are many local celebrations in Canyamel and its surrounding area:

A medieval market is held in the castle around the middle of May.
  • Maria del Carmens day, Patron Saint of fishermen, is celebrated on 16th July in Cala Ratjada.
  • At the end of July there are the village festivities with sporting competitions and dancing groups.
  • 16th August is Saint Rocs day.
  • Around the week of 24th August Capdepera holds its Patron Saints celebrations, Saint Bartholomew.
  • And in September is tourist week with its diverse activities.
